June Phlocking: Support Meals on Wheels of Charlotte County

May 26, 20264 min read

Join us for our June Phlocking on Tuesday, June 9, 2026, from 5:00–8:00 PM at TT’s Tiki Bar! Bring a friend, bring your donations, and come enjoy another great evening of music, friendship, and Parrot Head fun.

This month, we are proud to support Meals on Wheels of Charlotte County, a wonderful local organization that has been nourishing neighbors since 1969.

For more than five decades, Meals on Wheels of Charlotte County has helped homebound seniors across our community receive more than just a hot meal. Each delivery also brings a friendly knock on the door, a quick wellness check, and a reminder that they are not forgotten.

What began as a simple idea — neighbors preparing and delivering meals to those who could no longer cook for themselves — has grown into a trusted nonprofit that thousands of seniors have relied on over the years. Through hurricanes, economic challenges, and everyday hardships, Meals on Wheels of Charlotte County has remained a steady source of nutrition, safety checks, and compassion for older adults aging in place.

Ways You Can Support Meals on Wheels of Charlotte County

The impact of Meals on Wheels is only possible because of community support, and there are several meaningful ways Parrot Heads can help sustain and expand this vital work.

Make a financial donation. Monetary gifts help cover the cost of food, packaging, fuel, and program operations. Even a modest monthly donation can translate into multiple hot meals for a neighbor who might otherwise go without. Contributions also help keep meal prices affordable for clients, many of whom live on fixed incomes, and allow the organization to extend service to seniors who cannot pay the full cost.

Donate gently used clothing and household items. Meals on Wheels of Charlotte County also accepts donated clothing and household items at their on-site thrift store, located at 3082 Tamiami Trail. The thrift store turns gently used items into funding for the meal program.

Volunteer your time and talents. Volunteers are the backbone of Meals on Wheels of Charlotte County, and there are several ways to get involved:

Driver: Deliver meals along a set route while offering a friendly greeting and quick wellness check at each stop.

Thrift Store Volunteer: Help sort donations, stock shelves, and assist customers so the store can raise more funds for meals.

Kitchen Helper: Support staff with food prep, packaging, and cleanup to keep the daily operation running smoothly.

Special Events Volunteer: Assist with fundraisers, community outreach, and awareness events that introduce more people to the mission.

Every dollar donated, every bag of clothing dropped off at the thrift store, and every hour volunteered helps ensure that seniors in Charlotte County can remain in their own homes with dignity. From its long history dating back to 1969 to its busy hub at 3082 Tamiami Trail, Meals on Wheels of Charlotte County continues to prove that when a community comes together, no neighbor has to face hunger or isolation alone.
