We are the Charlotte Harbor Parrothead Club, a not-for-profit social club performing community service for the greater good of Charlotte County and the surrounding areas. Our members embrace the writings of Jimmy Buffett and all our Trop Rock musicians and the tropical lifestyle they sing about. We are blessed to have many of the best Trop Rockers living in our area and our state, and have had live music at every meeting since our inception in August 2007. A big thank you to Tracy Lehn and family for founding this club and to Jack Mosley for kicking off those inaugural meetings for us.
Though some clubs only pick one or two charities, our club has many charities we support throughout the year. At every meeting we collect pop-tops to benefit the Ronald McDonald House and aluminum cans to benefit the Peace River Wildlife Center. We do appreciate folks taking the time to assign donations to their desired charity and signing the Parrot Points sheet so we can tabulate donations for our yearly report. In addition to these “no cost” items we also collect different items each month for donation to a local cause, and we notify our members via e-mail with the list of items needed prior to each meeting.
Items have included school supplies, shoes, socks & underwear for children, canned and non-perishable foods for the homeless shelter or needy families, items to send to the troops, items for our four-legged friends and Toys-for-Tots.
We hold a 50/50 drawing at each meeting with the proceeds going to the charity that month or towards our birthday party. We also have a “costume contest” most meetings, each having a different theme depending on what’s happening that month. We will be updating the calendar on our website http://chphc.com so you have ample notice on what’s happening and when. In addition to donations we also volunteer for Adopt-a-Pond clean-ups and are a main force in the annual Peace River Clean-up held each June.
We are one of about 227 Parrotheads Clubs in the world (28 of them in Florida alone), but CHPHC is now NUMBER TWO in total number of current members. The national chapter is called Parrot Heads in Paradise Inc, whose motto is “Party with a Purpose”, and that is the mantra all clubs live by. Their website is www.phip.com and you can find lots of good info, including everything you need to know about the annual parrothead convention called Meeting of the Minds held down in Key West. MOTM is “THE PARTY” of all parties, with 3500+ parrotheads and most every Trop Rocker out there descending on a 2x4 mile island for four fantastic days of music and fun. This is a don’t miss event for every parrothead. You can also read about the good the parrothead nation does each year in the “State of the Phlock”.
In addition to our philanthropic endeavors we also have a lot of fun. As stated above, we have live music at every monthly meeting, we’ve held off-site happy hours, have gone bowling, have a yearly trip to the casino in Immokalee, tailgate in Tampa when Buffett comes to town, hold a “thank you to our members” holiday party and have an absolute blast at our annual birthday party over Labor Day weekend.
Our Members receive a weekly Newsletter "The Beakon" to keep up to date on what is going on in the club.
If you ever have any questions, concerns or suggestions please feel free to address it with any of our board members. That’s why they are there! Board member information is available here.
