It all began after attending a 2008 Jimmy Buffett concert in Las Vegas. The overall experience, and especially the preparty with the local parrot head club, resulted in Laura and I joining the Parrot Head Club of Tidewater. The Calypso Nuts were the musical entertainment for our monthly phlockings - Lynley Tolls turned me on to BeachFront Radio and the “trop rock” world. My company, Built to Last Outdoor Furniture, started sponsoring DJ Jeff’s daily live radio show. This led to sponsoring various events and fundraisers – we parlayed furniture raffles into over $100,000 being donated to various charitable organizations. It also exposed us to like-minded phriends around the country and all the trop rock musicians. We ended up hosting 42 house concerts while in Virginia Beach until we sold the business and moved fulltime to Punta Gorda in 2019. We now help longtime friend Sam Densler with Songwriters Island Radio programming and events, and we continue to host house concerts, but on a much smaller scale than when we were in Virginia.
